Unmuted

You've been the most edited version of yourself for long enough.

A 6-week voice and presence workshop for people who have been shrinking - in relationships, in careers, in a world that keeps demanding a different version of them — and are ready to come back to themselves.

One workshop available: Monday nights, 6:30PM, starting May 11 to June 8; showcase Sunday, June 14.

What This Is

Not a speaking course.
An encounter with your real voice.

You didn't go quiet all at once. It happened gradually. In relationships where keeping the peace meant keeping quiet. In a media landscape that told you who to be and how to be seen. In a professional world that keeps reinventing the rules faster than you can find your footing.

None of it was a single moment. It was a thousand small adjustments that felt reasonable at the time. And now the most edited version of you keeps showing up when you need the real one most.

That contraction is a nervous system response, not a personality flaw. And it changes through one thing: going through it, with support, in conditions that are real enough to activate it.

That's exactly what this workshop creates.

This workshop doesn't teach you how to speak. It gives you back the voice you already have. For six weeks at the Centre For Talking Arts, Dexter guides you through escalating experiential exercises, on stage in front of real people, in a small group where being witnessed is part of the work.

The group doesn't just watch. It holds the space that makes the shift possible. Week six is a live showcase. You leave with footage of who you became.

From Those I've Served

What shifts when people go through this

Real words from real transformations.

Who It's For

You don't need to be ready.
You just need to be done waiting.

  • People who have spent years making themselves smaller — in relationships, in rooms, in a world that kept asking them to adjust — and are done with it
  • Professionals who are capable and competent but smaller in the room than they actually are
  • Anyone who's ever left a conversation, meeting, or moment thinking — I should have said that
  • People who learn by doing, not by listening — who want an experience, not a seminar
The Program

Six weeks of going through it,
not around it.

Week1

The Block

Naming what actually stops you, and why. You'll identify your specific pattern under pressure and understand what's happening in the body when you shrink.

Week2

The Body

Presence, breath, and how you take up space. You can't think your way into presence, you have to inhabit it. This session is entirely physical and embodied.

Week3

The Voice

Saying what you mean without apology. Finding the tone, pace, and authority that's actually yours, not the version you perform when you're nervous.

Week4

The Power

Showing up on stage as your true self. Camera work and on-stage exercises that further expand who you really are. You'll watch yourself after and learn to use what you see.

Week5

The Joy

The group tests you, and you laugh. Your skin is thick, yet ticklish to what used to trigger. You want more stage time.

Week6

Live Showcase ★

This is not a performance. It's a declaration. Each participant takes the stage to share what has shifted — as a spoken piece, a monologue, a meaningful story, or a statement of values that could only come from someone who has done this work.

No scripts for effect. No polish for approval. Just the real voice, the real person, and whatever truth has been waiting to be said out loud.

You've been the most
edited version of yourself
for long enough.

Six weeks. A real stage. A room that holds you. A declaration that's been waiting to be made. This is what it looks like when you finally stop adjusting and start arriving.

One workshop available: Mondays nights, 6:30PM, starting May 11 to June 8; showcase Sunday, June 14.

12 spots per workshop. Future dates announced via The Unmuted Letter. Subscribe to be first to know.

Be Honest With Yourself

This workshop is not for everyone.

That's not a disclaimer, it's a courtesy. This work asks something real of you, and it only works if you're genuinely ready to show up for it.

  • People looking for a passive learning experience. You will be on your feet, on stage, and in front of people every session
  • Those who are not open to honest, direct feedback from Dexter and from the group
  • Anyone who is unwilling to be seen looking uncertain, uncomfortable, or unpolished. That's not a failure, it's the work
  • People seeking a purely technical public speaking course. This is about nervous system regulation and authentic presence, not delivery techniques
  • Those who cannot commit to attending all six sessions. The group builds together week by week and consistent presence matters
If you're on the fence, that's fine. Most people are before they start. The question isn't whether you're ready. It's whether you're willing. Those are different things.
Common Questions

Questions & Answers

None at all. This workshop is for people at all levels. From those who can barely introduce themselves in a group to those who present regularly but feel like they're performing rather than truly showing up. The methodology meets you where you are.
It means you learn by doing, not by listening. Each session involves guided exercises — on stage, on camera, in front of the group — designed to activate the exact conditions that trigger your contraction, so you can move through them with support. There are no slideshows. No note-taking. Just real experience.
A 5 to 7-minute piece of your choosing: a story, a talk, a monologue, or simply a version of yourself speaking about something that matters to you. Dexter works with each participant to develop something that feels authentic and achievable. The point isn't polish. The point is presence.
This is facilitated experiential work rooted in nervous system regulation, embodied presence, and the lived experience of being witnessed by a group. It goes deeper than most workshops. People often describe it as one of the most meaningful things they've done for themselves.

But Dexter is a coach and facilitator, not a therapist, and this is not a substitute for clinical treatment. If you are currently in active mental health treatment, please consult your provider before enrolling.
Most public speaking courses teach technique; how to structure a presentation, manage pacing, use gestures. This workshop doesn't. It goes deeper. It works on the nervous system pattern underneath the technique problem. Until that shifts, no amount of technique sticks under real pressure.
Light guided reflection between sessions, roughly 20–40 minutes per week. These practices are designed to integrate what's shifting in the room into your daily life. They're not homework; they're invitations.
All sessions take place at the Centre For Talking Arts (CFTA) in Hamilton, Ontario. Specific address and parking details are provided upon registration confirmation.
